The 5 S's of Handbag Selection

by Hazel Anaka

Designer Handbags Black Leather

Are you one of those women overwhelmed by the sheer, staggering number of handbag choices? Do you long for the simpler decisions of your grandma's day? For the days when her choice was the black leather frame handbag---think Golden Girls' Sophia's ever-present purse dangling from her forearm. Or would grandma pick her white patent leather summer purse? Or maybe a woven wicker number for the hazy, crazy summer days of the 1950s and 60s? Aaah the simple life.

Life in the twenty-first century is not short of choices, rigid rules, fashionista do's and don'ts, instant experts and armchair critics. Many women are unable to act because of decisional paralysis. We've grown to rely on the fashion industry stamp of approval to tell us what we like, what we want, and where to get it. Unless it's included in fashion magazine full page ads or top ten lists we're just not sure if it's right for us. If it bears a designer insignia or is favored by the hottest celebrities we want it. At the very least we crave the approval of family and friends. We've given up control.

In yet one more take on how to pick the perfect purse consider the following five tongue-in-cheek handbag design personality types. By pigeon-holing er defining your personality preferences you too will be able to take back control of your design destiny and buy just the right purse for you and live happily ever after. Honest. One. Are you a woman who appreciates fine lines, defined edges, art for the sake of art? Do you gravitate to sleek furniture and streamlined accessories? Aim for a "Sculptural Silhouette." Look for handbag designs that are structured, yet beautiful enough to display on a bookcase or table in your home. Designs that make you gasp in awe.

Two. If the words minimalist, uncontrived, and smart define your design sensibility in clothing and home decor think "Savvy Simplicity." You want to combine practicality and common sense with clean, simple designs. You don't want or need umpteen pockets in your purse. You frown at embellishments like tassels and grommets and pleating and buckles. Understated elegance is your watchword.

Three. Confident, refined, possessing worldly experience in matters of fashion and culture are words that define you. You know how to carry yourself and handle any situation that presents itself. You personify "Sleek Sophistication." You gravitate to those handbags constructed of luxury leathers, fine finishes and attention to detail. You understand that often less truly is more.

Four. You are the woman who's most likely to turn heads. You're well put together and not afraid to bend the rules. Your motto is: "it's better to ask forgiveness than request permission." Your style is "Stunningly Seductive." In the language of purse design that means sexy fabrics and finishes like lace, sequins and beads. Your handbag selection could reflect the rock chick vibe or the fun, funky exuberance of youth.

Five. You are the woman who expects good value for your dollar. You've earned everything you have and you will not settle for less than the best. You expect, no, demand reliability, functionality, enduring, affordable quality. And you're not willing to forgo fashion forward style to get it. This handbag design personality type is "Stylishly Substantial." Organizer purses with multiple pockets, attached key chains and coin purses are features you appreciate. With your hectic, multi-role life you need a handbag that works for you. Whether you need to pack some files or some baby wipes this purse will accommodate your wishes. You opt for classic designs.

Unless you're willing to go through life with one basic black bag it's time to have some fun with making your own fashion accessory decisions. Take note of what you love on others but trust your own good sense. Expect value for money and don't settle for less. Assess your needs---do you need a bag to take you from home to work and back again? Or do you want a glitzy little number for a hot night out? Or perhaps a fun and funky tote for the Saturday mall crawl? Take back your control and experience the power of purses.

The Perfect Handbag - How to Find It!

By Susan Bywater

Who would you choose? – Carlos Falchi, Clements Ribiero,
Betsey Johnson, Diesel, Jamin Puech or May be all or more on Efashionhouse

A woman's handbag is much more than just a place to put our keys, wallet, hairbrush, etc. It is an expression of our personality, of how we want to portray ourselves to the world. Just like with shoes, men often can't understand why we need several different purses, but as women, we know the power that the perfect handbag can bring. For days that we need to be practical, a classic black handbag is appropriate. For a romantic evening out, something a little smaller and glitzier and for change of pace when we're feeling stuck in a rut, a handbag that is bold and colorful does wonders to lift our mood. In recent years, designer handbags have gotten all the attention, and with good reason. They are gorgeous, well made, and highly sought after. But as gas prices go up, and job security goes down, many women simply can't justify spending several hundred dollars on a designer bag. Without the signature status symbol of whatever your favorite designer brand may be, how do you choose from the thousands of styles and colors out there?

Here are some tips:

If you are looking for an everyday handbag, stick with neutral colors. Neutral colors no longer have to be black or brown; they can be gold, bronze, silver, some shades of green, gray or some combination of these. Think about what you have in your closet, and determine what kinds of colors you wear most often. Do you mostly wear black? If you want completely practical, stick with your classic black. But if you want to stay neutral, yet stand out from the crowd; go with a silver or gray, or even a neutral shade of green. If classic black is too boring for you, go for something fabulous in a shiny silver handbag.

If you frequently change your handbag depending on what you're wearing, the sky's the limit for you. You don't want one "go with everything" bag; you want a selection of styles to go with your mood. Once you have the basic neutral, go crazy with the rest of your handbag wardrobe. This Melie Bianco Double Pocket Cargo Bag in turquoise is the perfect bag to pack a punch when paired with the right outfit. Don't be scared of color; just make sure you keep your outfit relatively simple when going this bold.

Go ahead and give in to the trends. Giraffe prints are super hot this season, but they are subtle enough that they don't scream "I will be so out of style next year; you won't know what hit you". A subtle giraffe print bag in black is trendy, but can still have a classic shape and neutral colors to even out the trend factor.

Whatever you end up buying, make sure you love it! There are so many styles and colors to choose from, you are bound to find something that screams "buy me”!! When you find that perfect handbag for you, the compliments will start pouring in, and you will feel like your outfit is complete.

Recession proof online shopping designer handbags

Elaine Turner Handbags

by Anna Miller

With all the talk about recession issues there’s one thing you can depend upon no matter what shape the economy. Online shopping saves you time, money and stress. At close to $4 a gallon, gasoline is not worth buying to drive around town. It is easier to sit at your computer and get everything you need. Save that gas money and use it to buy yourself something.

One of the great things about shopping online is 24 hour 7 days a week availability. And, with the help of search engines like Google, a person can get anything they want at prices much lower than what they would pay at the store.

Considering fuel charges alone, one trip to the local shopping mall could be as much as you would pay for a new designer handbag by Melie Bianco or MURVAL. These designers create the high end look without the high end price tag. They also provide roomy versatile purses made of eco friendly materials. If there is one thing a woman can not live without it is an occasional new purse.

If leather is your choice of handbag, Elaine Turner makes a complete line of affordable, moderately priced women’s bags and accessories. Elaine is fairly new to the designer handbag scene. She started her handbag business in Dallas, Texas around 2000. Her designs are made exceptionally well, and the handbags have classic appeal among women.

All-in-all, to recession proof shopping habits, you must start thinking smart about using your budget wisely. An average trip to the mall or department store costs about $12 in gasoline, plus lunch about $16 (minimum), and parking in major cities anywhere from $6 - $15. That’s a hefty price to spend an afternoon browsing stores. The irony of the situation is most of the stores you browse are available online, too.

You may feel the day out is deserved after a long work week -- agreed. Treating yourself with a reward is motivating. That’s not the point, here. If the economy dictates our spending, then maybe we need to re-examine how we spend and where our money goes.

McDonalds just announced the introduction of a new flavored ice-coffee on tap in their fast food restaurants. I bet many of the Starbuck addicts at $5 a pop will try switching to the $1.89 McDonald coffee. It is a smart choice and an alternative without depriving yourself of something you enjoy. And, the savings is huge if you drive through or stop for coffee once per day.

Same is true with designer fashion accessories like handbags, purses, scarves, hats, jewelry, and tote bags. Why deprive yourself of something you want if there is a way to obtain the items at affordable prices. A fashion keepsake is something you will have forever. So, it only makes sense to find something affordable and adorable. Online shopping provides resources to get these special things at great discount prices.

It appears as though the designer industry is out of control. From handbags to watches to foot wear, shoes, boots, and just about anything with a designer label has gotten to an unreachable, unattainable price level. Some people advocate the rental of these high end designer items to give the appearance of affluence. It is somewhat discouraging to know people feel the need to put on a fake front by renting fashion. And, it doesn’t fit into the smart shopper attitude. Why rent and pay high fees when you can buy something of your own.

Actually, with all the transmitted diseases and germs spreading like viruses, who would want to use a purse an unknown person carried previously. Scary thought seeing as an average trip to the doctor is about $150, and if medication or a shot is needed, add another couple hundred dollars. Not worth the risk nowadays. Designer rental companies are a lot of hype and advertising without ROI (return of investment) for the customer – very high cost, extremely low value.

Well, it is time to go surfing -- nope, not to the ocean, directly to Google. You want a new designer handbag -- easily, type into the search box, Designer Handbag. A list of resources appears before your eyes. Browse the online stores, compare prices and choose wisely. Contact the website with questions. A good online store will respond to your questions promptly. Find those special places online to get the things you want without any overhead expenses. You can shop anytime day or night, save time, save money and do it all in the privacy of your own home.

Happy bargain hunting online is a great way to shop smart using your budget wisely.
